In our final message in the series Walking In The Light we will take a look at what it means to live a life of Practical Christianity.
In a heartfelt sermon, Pastor David Filener dives into Titus 2:11-14 to unpack what “Practical Christianity” really means. He shares how believers can actively live out their faith by embracing God’s grace, which offers salvation and guides us to live righteous lives today.
Key Takeaways
The GIFT is FREE but the CHOICE to RECIEVE it is ours
Pastor David kicks things off by talking about God’s grace as an incredible gift that offers salvation to everyone. He points out that this grace doesn’t force itself on us. Instead, it offers salvation, leaving the choice to us. This idea is echoed in John 1:12, where it says those who accept Him get to become children of God.
The PLAN is CLEAR but the RESPONSIBILITY of FOLLOWING it is ours
The sermon highlights that God’s plan for living as Christians is pretty straightforward: say no to ungodliness and worldly desires, and yes to self-control, righteousness, and godliness. Pastor David stresses that it’s up to each of us to stick to this plan. As John 8:12 puts it, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
The POWER is REAL but the DECISION to ACCESS it is ours
Pastor David spends a good chunk of time talking about the power we can access through God’s grace. While we can’t earn salvation through works, God’s grace empowers us to live out our faith every day. He uses the story of the prodigal son to show how the father’s love not only forgives but also empowers the son to reclaim his place in the family.
Pastor David reminds us that the power of God’s grace is real and available, but we have to choose to tap into it. As Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”
Walking Humbly with God
Taking inspiration from Micah 6:8, Pastor David encourages us to walk humbly with God, acting justly and loving mercy. He sees humility as key to accessing God’s grace and power. He also brings up James 4:6-10, which talks about submitting to God and resisting evil to receive more grace and live in line with God’s will.
Wrapping Up
To wrap things up, Pastor David makes it clear that “Practical Christianity” is all about accepting the free gift of salvation, sticking to God’s plan, and using the real power of His grace. He challenges us to renew our commitment to living in the light, fueled by God’s grace, and to walk humbly with Him every day. This sermon is a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey of faith and the daily choice to walk in Christ’s light.
For more reflection, Pastor David suggests checking out Titus 2:11-14, John 8:12, and Micah 6:8.
