An ancient Greek philosopher, Heraclitus said that change is the only constant in life.
Our CULTURE, for example, is constantly CHANGING around us. Some of those changes are innocuous. Many others though are quite dangerous, especially as it relates to our faith and the truth of God’s Word.
My point, in this introduction to a new series about change, is that sometimes we fail to see how we are changing. Like getting older, we don’t realize the change that is taking place from day to day, but when we look back over years and decades, we realize that we have changed significantly.
I want us to consider how we may be changing. My question for us over the next several weeks, is… Are we CHANGING (conforming more and more to the things of this world) or are we BEING CHANGED by the power of God?
KEY TEXT:
Romans 12:2 (ESV)
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Rather than CHANGING (conforming) to be like the world, I want to BE CHANGED (transformed by the power of God)
Throughout this series, I want to take a deep look into the lives of people in the Bible who were CHANGED by God.
I believe the promise that God gave to Saul right before he made him King over Israel is the promise of the Spirit of God to us today as we live under the New Covenant of redemption and restoration and as we receive the blessing of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all flesh.
1 Samuel 10:6-7
6 The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. 7 Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you.
I want to be different, but the only way to be different is to be changed by the power of God
